David Bowie - Nature Boy

Song:
Nature Boy
Artist: David Bowie
Album: Moulin Rouge! Soundtrack

Year: 2001

I do not like much this film. I do not like too much its soundtrack either. But I do love emotional music, like the one that can be found on this amazing Bowie's version from Eden Ahbez's standard jazz tune - Nature Boy -. A breathtaking song, even more considering that it's just an orchestra with David Bowie's voice.

(Ewan McGregor: Spoken) This story is about love. The woman I loved is dead

(Bowie: Sung) There was a boy. A very strange enchanted boy. They say he wandered, very far, over land and sea. A little shy and sad of eye, but very wise was he. And then one day, one magic day, he passed my way while we spoke of many things, fools and kings. This he said to me: "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return".

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Mercy Seat

Song: The Mercy Seat
Artist: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Album: Tender Prey
Genre: Alternative Rock
Year: 1998

No explanation needed why this has become Nick Cave's signature song. It's a really hard, powerfull, dark and raw song, something that fits perfect on Cave's personality.

Some information quoting Wikipedia: "In 2000, one of Cave's heroes, Johnny Cash, covered Cave's "The Mercy Seat" on the album American III: Solitary Man, seemingly repaying Cave for the compliment he paid by covering Cash's "The Singer" on his Kicking Against the Pricks album. Cave was then invited to be one of many rock and country artists to contribute to the liner notes of the retrospective The Essential Johnny Cash CD, released to coincide with Cash's 70th birthday. Subsequently, Cave cut a duet with Cash on a version of Hank Williams' "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" for Cash's American IV: The Man Comes Around album (2002). A similar duet, the American folk song "Cindy", was released posthumously on the "Johnny Cash: Unearthed" boxset."

Isn't it too much?

It began when they come took me from my home and put me in Death Row, of which I am nearly wholly innocent, you know. And I'll say it again I..am..not..afraid..to..die.

I began to warm and chill. To objects and their fields.
A ragged cup, a twisted mop. The face of Jesus in my soup.
Those sinister dinner deals, the meal trolley's wicked wheels.
A hooked bone rising from my food. All things either good or ungood.

And the mercy seat is waiting. And I think my head is burning. And in a way I'm yearning to be done with all this measuring of proof. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. And anyway I told the truth, and I'm not afraid to die.

Interpret signs and catalogue. A blackened tooth, a scarlet fog.
The walls are bad. Black. Bottom kind. They are sick breath at my hind.
They are sick breath gathering at my hind.

I hear stories from the chamber. How Christ was born into a manger and like some ragged stranger died upon the cross. And might I say it seems so fitting in its way he was a carpenter by trade, or at least that's what I'm told.

Like my good hand I tatooed E.V.I.L. across it's brother's fist, That filthy five! They did nothing to challenge or resist.

In Heaven His throne is made of gold, the ark of his Testament is stowed a throne from which I'm told all history does unfold. Down here it's made of wood and wire and my body is on fire, and God is never far away.

Into the mercy seat I climb. My head is shaved, my head is wired
And like the moth that tries to enter the bright eye.
So I go shuffling out of life, just to hide in death awhile.
And anyway I never lied.

My kill-hand is called E.V.I.L. Wears a wedding band that's G.O.O.D. `tis a long-suffering shackle collaring all that rebel blood.

And the mercy seat is waiting. And I think my head is burning. And in a way I'm yearning to be done with all this measuring of truth. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. And anyway I told the truth, and I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is waiting. And I think my head is burning. And in a way I'm yearning to be done with all this measuring of truth. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. And anyway I told the truth, and I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is waiting. And I think my head is burning. And in a way I'm yearning to be done with all this weighing up. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. And anyway I told the truth, and I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is waiting. And I think my head is burning. And in a way I'm yearning to be done with all this looks of disbelief. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. And anyway I told the truth, and I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is waiting. And I think my head is burning. And in a way I'm yearning to be done with all this twisted of the truth. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. And anyway I told the truth, and I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is waiting. And I think my head is burning. And in a way I'm yearning to be done with all the fun with all this truth. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. And anyway I told the truth, and I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is waiting. And I think my head is burning. And in a way I'm yearning to be done with all this measuring of proof. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. And anyway I told the truth, and I'm not afraid to die.

And the mercy seat is waiting. And I think my head is burning. And in a way I'm yearning to be done with all this measuring of truth. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. And anyway I told the truth, and I'm not afraid to die.

Dayna Kurtz - Paterson

Song: Paterson
Artist: Dayna Kurtz

Genre: Folk-Rock

A more-than 6 minutes song, is a long one. But sometimes you need that time to express something. Dayna Kurtz was an unknown artist for me until past week. But I've fallen in love with this woman and their songs. It's so dad, intense, but powerfull, that I can't keep listening to it again and again.

I'm not the only one whi thinks this woman is amazing. Allen Ginsberg said from this song: "Paterson is a big sad poppa in need of a little compassion".

The road still runs by the river. The river still pours into town. By the time you see where you’re headed you’re half the way down.

I was bragging on my independence, saying love leaves you stumbling and dumb . Then i go and dissolve just like cotton candy on the tip of some boy’s tongue.

In the crackhouse cellars. In the weary faces. In the burnt out factories.

This town knows there’s nowhere left to go but all the way down. We all know there’s nowhere left to go but all the way down.

Every sad old poppa was a proud young man full of victories that he almost won. All the mistakes that he made pave the streets of paterson.

We made our concessions to the business. We paid our dues to the wrong guys and we got deeply screwed. But we don’t let anyone tell us what to do anymore.

We need our great falls in the trash and foam floats every wish we’ve ever made.

This town knows there’s nowhere left to go but all the way down. We all know there’s nowhere left to go but all the way down.

Oh, mio couré, sto morento ma tu non mi vedi.

30 Seconds To Mars - The Kill

Song: The Kill
Artist: 30 Seconds To Mars
Album: A Beautiful Lie
Genre: Alternative Rock
Year: 2005

Reading some music-blog the other day I discovered that Jared Leto (if you haven't seen Requiem for a Dream, you must) had a rock band. I've been really impressed with their second album, that I could mark it as "one of the best albums I've heard on the past few weeks". I think that they've had a great idea by paying more attention to their music videos: The Kill Music Video is based on The Shining (they won the MTV Video Music Awards 2006 - MTV2 Award with this video), and From Yesterday Video is a full samurai tale.

What if I wanted to break. Laugh it all off in your face. What would you do?
What if I fell to the floor. Couldn't take all this anymore. What would you do?

Come, break me down, bury me. I am finished with you

What if I wanted to fight. Beg for the rest of my life. What would you do?
You say you wanted more. What are you waiting for? I'm not running from you.

Come, break me down. Bury me. I am finished with you.
Look in my eyes. You're killing me. All I wanted was you.

I tried to be someone else, but nothing seemed to change. I know now, this is who I really am inside.
Finally found myself, fighting for a chance. I know now, this is who I really am.

Christmas time has passed by, so it's time to take up again the blog! And as on the last '06 post there was a reference to this tremendous artist, I thought that one of his tracks should be the first '07 post. Therefore, here we are!

Ooh, baby. Keep on (my baby), keep on doing it.
Right on (oh). Right on doing it (we get it together).
Baby keep on (oh We get it together baby). Right on, keep on doing it (and I'll give you baby) [all that I get].
Now my baby keep on (I swear we get it together baby). Keep on.

Wherever, wherever girl I'll do it. Forever and ever, yeah, I'll see you through it.

I've got to keep you pleased in every way I can.
Gonna give you all of me as much as you can stand.
Make love to you right now, that's all I want to do.
I know you need it, girl, and you know I need it, too.
'Cause I found what the world is searching for.
Here, right here, my dear, I don't have to look no more.
And, oh, my babe I hoped and I prayed for someone.
Just like you to make me feel the way you do

Never, never gonna give you up. I'm never, ever gonna stop.
Not the way I feel about you. Girl, I just can't live without you.
I'm never ever gonna quit, 'Cause quitin' just ain't my schtick I'm gonna stay right here with you.
Do all the things you want me to.

Whatever you want, girl, you got it. And whatever you need I don't want to see you without it.

You've given me much more than words could ever say.
And oh, my dear, I'll be right here until my dying day.
I don't know just how to say all the things I feel.
I just know that I love you so and it gives me such a thrill.
'Cause I found what this world is searching for.
Here, right here, my dear I don't have to look no more.
And all of my days I hoped and I prayed for someone just like you
to make me feel the way you do.

Sensuality is on air! What a great start for '07...
