Bill Conti - Adrian

Song: Adrian
Artist: Bill Conti
Album: Rocky III
Genre: Soundtrack, Instrumental, Score

There are a lot of Rocky [wiki] movies (maybe more than necessary), but there will be just one unique Bill Conti [filmography]. He can be considered one of the bests film-scores composers of the 20th century.

Maria Callas - Un Bel Di Vedremo

Song: Un Bel Di Vedremo
Artist: Maria Callas
Album: Madama Butterfly
Genre: Opera
Year: 1997 (remastered)

This woman is the voice of century. You may love opera music or hate it, but there's no doubt about it. She's perfect, she's brilliant, she's... just she. The only one. No one ever singed Madama Butterfly [wiki] from Puccini [wiki] as she did. No one will never sing as she did.

Everyone has a punk season at teenage time (almost everyone). You feel as a real unruly child, and the music you listen must be equitable. At this album you'll find too a version from Nena [wiki] - 99 Luftballons (99 Red Balloons).

Weezer - My Best Friend

Song: My Best Friend

I've been expecting this album for three long years, and it didn't dissapointed me at all. They are still full of vitality and good ideas, as their fans are used to. Rivers Cuomo [wiki] could be considered as a genious!

The Clash - London Calling

Song: London Calling
Artist: The Clash
Album: London Calling
Genre: Rock

The last time I posted an epic song was some long time ago. One of those songs that you must have on your cd shelves. And if it's an original record, much better (this is not my case, but I would like to...).

Silence - Larmes

Song: Larmes
Artist: Silence
Album: L'autre Endroit

"If you love music you must share it", that's what I've always said. And at Jamendo.com [link], hopefully, everybody thinks the same. I guess that if someone is able to compose songs like this one [Jamendo.com link]... it worths it.

Song: Metamorphosis 2: Danae
Artist: Paul Schwartz

Genre: Instrumental
Year: 2004

Following the essence of E.S.Posthumus [prev|wiki], I decided to investigate (long time ago) other similar composers and, lucky of me, I bumped into this man. This is the best song of his last album - at least that's what I think -.

Song: Staple It Together
Artist: Jack Johnson

How many hawaian singer-songwriters do you know? If you just need one hand to count them, check this one. And if, as seen on Wikipedia, he achieved #2 U.S., #3 Canada, #10 UK, #1 Australia and #1 New Zealand, the album can't be so bad, isn't it?

Mojo Project - Good Luck

Song: Good Luck
Artist: Mojo Project
Album: Taste The Mojo
Genre: Funky
Year: 2005

When I listen to this track I can't stop thinking on it's alike with Jamiroquai [wiki]. The similities are quite evident, but when you rip the surface off there are some differences, mainly because they are Spanish while Jamiro is British. The Latin rhythm always takes place inside the blood.

Curtis Mayfield - Little Child Runnin Wild

Song: Little Child Runnin Wild
Artist: Curtis Mayfield
Album: Superfly
Genre: Soundtrack, R&B
Year: 1972

I've been a long time waiting to post this song to show what black music really is (most of you will already know it) and not what sounds on radio stations nowadays. The perfect management of Rhythm & Blues that this guy shows on this track is amazing. Get this soundtrack (yes, it's a soundtrack from an old film [wiki] ), no matter how.

Meredith Brooks - What Would Happen

Song: What Would Happen
Artist: Meredith Brooks
Album: Bluring The Edges
Genre: Pop-Rock
Year: 1997

When I was young, I was addicted to Dawson's Creek [wiki] (for the first tree seasons; after that I stopped watching it, it began quite repetitive). But on first season, on a crucial moment, this song began to sound on background... while I got shocked. I couldn't imagine such a perfect song for what was happening on tv and it became my favourite love song ever. I have listened a lot of love songs that are brilliant but they never reached as far as this song did on my heart once. The lyrics [link], the music, the composition, the environment, the voice.... everything is perfect to make love by. Believe me.

Toad The Wet Sprocket - Rings

Song: Rings
Artist: Toad The Wet Sprocket
Album: Coil
Genre: Pop-Rock
Year: 1997

Maybe we should look back to 90's, when pop-rock music was at plenty of faculties. Nowadays, except some strange cases, it's too much comercial. And this band is a great exaple how this genre must be.

Seal - Crazy

Song: Crazy
Artist: Seal
Album: Best (1991 - 2004)
Genre: Pop-Rock
Year: 2004

I'm realy glad for the return of this great man. There were many songs that I wanted to post (Kiss From A Rose, Waiting For You, Future Love Paradise, Killer - one of the best 90's hits - , My Vision, Fly Like An Eagle, Get It Together, Heavenly, Loneliest Star, Tinsel Town, Prayer For The Dying, Human Beings ... ) but I just can post one of them! And I thought I should let people know that the recent Alanis Morrisette version of this song is very very ugly.

Porcupine Tree - Arriving Somewhere, but Not Here

Song: Arriving Somewhere, but Not Here
Artist: Porcupine Tree
Album: Deadwing
Genre: Alternative Rock.
Year: 2005

You don't expect what sounds in the middle-end of this twelve minutes song the first time you hear it. The change of registry is absolutely brutal but on a continuously way, and I wouldn't be wrong if I assures that sometimes it is near Metal (check the song Shallow too).

Erik Satie - 1st Gymnopedie

Song: 1st Gymnopedie
Artist: Erik Satie
Album: Satie: Piano Works
Genre: Instrumental, Classical
Year: 1992

You are walking on a meadow, near the lake. Birds are singing around you while wind blows smoothly and the water flows on its direction. Everything is calm. No one is around you because you are all alone, you want to be alone, you just need to reflect on that bad thing that has just happened.

That's what shows on my mind when I'm listening this song. Thanks a lot, Satie [wiki].

Peter Frank Santovito - Laying Down A Pattern

Song: Laying Down A Pattern
Artist: Peter Frank Santovito
Album: Letters To My Love
Genre: Rock
Year: 2003

Independent and self-produced music is a difficult way to go through. But if you are able to do it, the final result is as clean as your imagination. There is no finger prints of those big producer-firms that try to change your compositions to approach it a little bit more to what public wants. It's just what you want to do... when you want to do it.

Steve Jablonsky - This Tongue Thing's Amazing

Song: This Tongue Thing's Amazing
Artist: Steve Jablonsky
Album: The Island
Genre: Soundtrack, Score
Year: 2005

I had no idea who was Steve Jablonsky until I saw The Island (wiki), but I've seen that this is not the first score he composes (link). You can recognize everywhere the unmistakable touch of Hans Zimmer (wiki), any one would talk about it because he is the producer of this soundtrack. If you have seen the film, you'll realize soon where it exactly sounds. If you have not, try guessing it by reading again its title.

U2 - New Years Day

Song: New Years Day
Artist: U2
Album: The Best Of 1980 - 1990
Genre: Rock
Year: 1998

I guess that this post goes to Sonia (consider it my pressent for "El día de los Reyes Magos"), because she's a huge fan of this band. And I know that she gets angry when I give my opinion about U2, but I'm gonna do it (sorry!). This a incredible band, one of the biggest bands nowadays, but.. have you ever listened a hole album just at once? I can't! I get bored. It's a pitty because they are able to compose amazing songs but not a hole good album from the beginning 'till the end. That's the reason why the album posted is the compilation of his bests tracks.

Artist: Elastica

Sufjan Stevens - John Wayne Gacy, Jr.

Song: John Wayne Gacy, Jr.
Artist: Sufjan Stevens
Album: Illinoise
Genre: Folk
Year: 2005

Today I was watching some posts from Alt1040 when I found a entrie about the bests ten albums of 2005. This one was the most rated but I had no idea about its existance so I got it (as I always do). Surprisingly, after listening crefully to it, now I realize why it was the first one. I gave in to its beauty, to the feelings that enveloped me and let my mind go away. I was suddenly immersed on a road movie and I don't wanted to wake up. I wanted not to realize that there was another world than the one Sufjan Stevens was describing me (with it's good and bad things). But everything has an end, and after 22 tracks the music stoped and I came back to reality, looking foward to listen the hole album again.
